Pain assessment in patients undergoing lumbar spine arthrodesis: application of unidimensional and multidimensional scale

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: It is possible that patients submitted to lumbar spine surgery present chronic pain and need a multidimensional assessment of postoperative due the variables influence pain. The objective this study was evaluate correlation between uni scales for assessment. METHODS: Longitudinal observational carried out in inpatient units an orthopedic reference hospital Sao Paulo. 53 were selected preoperative period arthrodesis, 28 excluded 25 evaluated with numerical verbal scale Brief Pain Inventory on day 2. RESULTS: In sample, all had mean previous time 9.24 years. There variation pre periods almost items, but only item regarding amount ‘’right now’’ (in moment) equivalent (Kappa=almost complete correlation). CONCLUSION: not comparable since Numerical Verbal Scale showed worsening pain, while reflected improvement perception seemed be better tool
